The 80's were dominated by three girl groups, The Go Go's, The Bangles, and Heart. (Okay, Expose did set some kind of top ten number of singles record to, but they weren't as critically acclaimed) When the Go Go's faded to the background, the Bangles emerged and captured the spotlight.

Formed in the Los Angeles in the early 1980's, The Bangs eventually became The Bangles. They were not your average 80's girl band. They didn't use sex to sell their sound and they didn't change their sound to fit into the pop heavy 80's radio rotation.
There first major studio release, All Over The Place, yielded the semi-hit "Hero Takes A Gall". The Girls hit pay dirt several years later with the song "Maniac Monday". Their sophomore album "Different Light" was a huge success, much in thanks to the songs "If She Knew What She Wants" and the unforgetable "Walk Like an Egyptian".
The Bangles had a folksy hippy sound, and if you listen to a Bangles album, you may be surprised that their sound was quite different than the songs the studio released as singles. If you listened to songs such as "Following" and "Watching The Sky" it was hard to believe they were recorded by the same group who sang "Walkding Down Your Street."

Riding high on the success of "Different Light" in 1988 The Bangles released "Everything." The song "Eternal Flame" went on to be a huge success.

They were at the top of their careers when the music stopped. It was originally described as a "break", but it was soon quite clear that The Bangles were history. They all went their seperate ways to pursue their dreams of family and careers.
